NIWA Collaborates with Private Sector to Enhance Efficiency in Nigeria's Inland Waterways

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) is working on sustaining collaboration with the private sector to boost efficiency and expand service delivery in Nigeria's inland waterways. During a meeting in Abuja, NIWA's Acting Managing Director, Yusuf Girei, engaged with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Fatima Mahmood, to strengthen safety awareness and improve service delivery.

The collaboration aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on enhancing safety standards and infrastructure to unlock economic potential in the inland waterways sector. NIWA, established in 1997 under the NIWA Act, operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

The agency's mandate covers major waterways across Nigeria, including rivers, creeks, lagoons, and coastal waterways. Mahmood commended NIWA's efforts and emphasized the importance of safety awareness campaigns and collaboration with sister agencies to enhance human capital development and public enlightenment.
