NIWA's Girei Unveils Anti-Corruption Initiatives

Alhaji Umar Yusuf Girei, the Acting Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), emphasized the organization's commitment to improving service delivery and combating corruption. Speaking at NIWA headquarters in Lokoja, Girei outlined the outcomes of a recent two-day executive anti-corruption training held in Abuja, which was organized in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The training aimed to strengthen revenue systems and prevent corruption within NIWA. Girei highlighted the importance of good leadership and resource generation, stating that nothing can be achieved without adequate resources.

He also mentioned the upcoming NIWA management retreat in 2026, which aims to promote a culture of transparency and performance-driven leadership. This retreat will facilitate collaboration among stakeholders to align NIWA's mission and vision with the federal government's objectives, as articulated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
