NJC Recommends 12 New Justices for Appeal Court

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of Justice James Omotosho, Justice Emeka Nwite, and ten other candidates as Justices of the Court of Appeal. This decision was reached during the NJC's 111th meeting held on May 13, 2026, under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

The other recommended Justices include Yakubu Abdulhamme, Abodund Monisola Oluwatoyin, Ajuwa Raphael, Abua Elia Oji, Ijohor Mbalamen Jennifer, Shuaibu Sabiu Bala, Buba Dauda Njane, Kado Sanusi, Ademola Enikuomehin, and Dadom Julcit Veronica. Additionally, the NJC recommended the appointment of judges for the High Court in Benue State and for the Sharia Court of Appeal in Katsina State.

The NJC's recommendations followed a rigorous selection process involving public scrutiny and stakeholder interviews. Furthermore, the NJC extended the acting appointment of Justice Ljeoma O.

Agugua as Chief Judge of Imo State for an additional three months, effective from March 26, 2026, to June 26, 2026, to complete the process of appointing a substantive Chief Judge.
