NJC Recommends 12 Judges for Appeal Court Appointments

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has forwarded the names of 12 judges to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as Justices of the Court of Appeal. This recommendation comes after the NJC's 111th meeting, presided over by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Olatokunbo Motomori.

Among those recommended are James Kolawole Omotosho and Emeka Nwite, both of whom have handled high-profile political and criminal matters in the Federal High Court. The NJC's statement, released on a Friday, indicated that these judges were deemed worthy after rigorous interviews.

Additionally, the NJC addressed various judicial misconduct cases, resulting in the suspension of judges Ibrahim Shekarau and Edward Okp, who were found guilty of granting frivolous orders. The NJC also reported that 256 judicial officers were queried for various offenses, with 73 petitions dismissed as baseless.

The recommendations aim to fill vacancies in the Court of Appeal, particularly following retirements to the Supreme Court bench.
