NLC Warns Akpabio Over Senator's Suspension Standoff

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of persecuting Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Kogi Central. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was prevented from entering the National Assembly despite notifying the acting clerk of her intention to resume legislative duties on September 4.

The NLC condemned the Senate's actions, calling the continued suspension a threat to democracy. The suspension, initially due to gross misconduct, has escalated into a legal battle with Akpabio.

The NLC warned of a dangerous slide towards fascism if the suspension is not lifted, emphasizing the need to uphold democratic principles. The ongoing litigation has led to a standoff between the Senate and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, raising concerns about the rule of law and political interference.
