NMA Encourages Doctors to Join Military for Attractive Pay

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged doctors to consider joining the military, emphasizing that the pay package is attractive. This statement was made during a visit to Kalapanzin Barrack in Kakuri, Kaduna, where NMA President Professor Bala Mohammed Audu commended the Nigerian military, particularly the army, for their commitment to frontline defense.

He noted that troops often risk their lives for the nation, and all countries provide healthcare to their military personnel, even in frontline situations. Professor Audu pointed out that there are approximately 50,000 Nigerian doctors practicing abroad, which contributes to medical tourism.

He mentioned that the Nigerian healthcare system could benefit from recruiting doctors who may not apply for positions. The visit also highlighted the excellent condition of the medical facilities at Kalapanzin Barrack, which Audu compared to a five-star hotel, indicating a clean and organized environment conducive to patient care.

Lt Colonel J. Ufua of the 312 Artillery Regiment was also present during this visit.
