Over 50,000 Nigerian Doctors Practicing Abroad: NMA

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) reported that over 50,000 Nigerian doctors are currently practicing abroad. During a visit to Kalapanzi Barrack in Kakuri, Kaduna, NMA President Bala Mohammed Audu highlighted the significant loss of medical professionals to foreign nations, which impacts the quality of healthcare in Nigeria.

He noted that the country is not only losing doctors to overseas opportunities but also faces internal migration as doctors seek better welfare within Nigeria. Audu urged medical professionals to consider joining the Nigerian military, citing the military's salary structure as an attractive option.

Lieutenant Colonel J. Ufua of the 312 Artillery Regiment described the visit as a privilege and acknowledged the regiment's strong team spirit.

The discussion underscores the urgent need to address the welfare of medical practitioners in Nigeria to mitigate the ongoing brain drain.
