NMDPRA Denies N3,300 Aviation Fuel Price Hike Claims

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has officially denied reports suggesting an imminent price hike of aviation fuel to N3,300 per liter. In a statement issued by Georg En Ita, the Director of Public Affairs, the agency reassured stakeholders that the country has a sufficient stock of aviation fuel, with a total of 74 days' supply available, comprising 12 days from inland refineries and 62 days from other sources.

The current ex-gate price of aviation fuel from Dangote Petroleum Refinery is N1,879 per liter, which is slightly below the international indicative supply cost of N1,900 per liter. A nationwide price survey conducted on April 17, 2026, indicated that retail prices for aviation fuel range from N1,960 to N2,800 per liter, depending on location.

The NMDPRA emphasized that aviation fuel prices are fully deregulated and driven by market dynamics, not government control. The agency will continue to monitor supply trends to prevent market disruptions.
