NMDPRA Confirms 74 Days of Jet Fuel Supply in Nigeria

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a statement confirming that there is no impending scarcity of aviation fuel in Nigeria. According to Georg En Ita, the Director of Public Affairs at NMDPRA, the country currently holds a combined stock of 74 days of aviation fuel supply, which includes 12 days from inland refineries and an additional 62 days of stock.

This clarification comes amid rising concerns from airline operators regarding the steep increase in the cost of aviation turbine kerosene, which they reported purchasing at N3,300 per liter. NMDPRA refuted this price, stating it does not reflect the prevailing market reality, as the aviation fuel market is fully deregulated and prices are determined by market forces.

The agency noted that the price of aviation fuel from Dangote Petroleum Refinery was N1,879 per liter as of April 16, 2026, slightly below the international indicative supply cost of N1,900 per liter, with nationwide retail prices ranging from N1,960 to N2,800 per liter depending on location.
