NMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Oluwafemi Reveals One-Year Scorecard

On March 1, 2023, Prof. Flora Oluwafemi, Vice-Chancellor of Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), unveiled a comprehensive one-year scorecard highlighting the institution's achievements amid financial challenges.

The scorecard detailed efforts to stabilize academic operations, including adherence to the approved academic calendar and the elimination of lecture disruptions. Notable improvements included an overhaul of the university's power supply, increasing daily electricity availability from three hours to six to eight hours through solar interventions.

Additionally, NMU installed high-speed Starlink satellite internet and renovated student hostels, upgrading plumbing and electrical systems. The university also secured partnerships with corporate entities, leading to the training of 700 staff and students in artificial intelligence.

Prof. Oluwafemi expressed gratitude to Mr.

Abdullahi Bardi, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, for support in securing funding and projects, including a new ICT conference center. NMU aims to strengthen its role in Nigeria's blue economy and enhance global research visibility.
