Sowore: Kanu in Jail for Rejecting Tinubu's Support

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate, stated on March 16, 2026, that Nnamdi Kanu continues to be imprisoned due to his refusal to accept conditions allegedly offered by the Nigerian government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sowore contrasted Kanu's situation with that of Sunday Igboho, who has reportedly accepted terms from the government.

Kanu has been in detention since his re-arrest in 2021, facing charges related to terrorism and treason. Sowore made these remarks during a visit to Aba, highlighting the differing paths taken by the two separatist figures.
