Nnamdi Kanu Sentenced to Life Imprisonment After 10-Year Terrorism Trial

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been convicted on seven counts of terrorism by the Federal High Court in Abuja after a 10-year trial. The trial, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, concluded with Kanu being sentenced to life imprisonment.

Kanu's case had seen various legal twists, including his initial arrest in Lagos in 2015, subsequent bail jumping, and rearrest in Kenya in 2021. The prosecution presented evidence of Kanu's involvement in acts of terror, including threats and broadcasts inciting violence in Nigeria's South East region.

The judgment was delivered after Kanu failed to present a defense, leading to the court foreclosing on the case.
