NNPC Ltd Defends Leadership, Reports Production Growth

The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), under the leadership of Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Engineer Bayo, has addressed allegations regarding its performance related to the recent oil licensing round conducted by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). In a press statement signed by Chief Corporate Communications Officer (CCCO) Andy Odeh, NNPC Ltd clarified that it has no regulatory or allocative role in the licensing process, as stipulated by the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.

The company reported a significant improvement in crude oil production, with an average of 1.60 million barrels per day (mbpd) as of April 2025, rising to 1.67 mbpd by April 2026, marking a 6 percent growth. Gas production also increased from 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) in April 2025 to 7,729 mmscfd by April 2026, indicating a 5 percent growth.
