NNPC Denies Underperformance Claims, Reports 6% Output Growth

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) refuted allegations of underperformance made by the Oil and Gas Professionals Forum (OGPF), which called for an investigation into NNPC's leadership and operations. The OGPF, led by Ayodele Momoh, raised concerns about transparency in production performance and licensing processes, suggesting possible insider influence.

In response, NNPC, under Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Bayo Ojulari, stated that it has no regulatory authority over oil licensing, which falls under the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). NNPC reported an increase in crude oil production from 1.60 million barrels per day (bpd) in April 2025 to 1.67 million bpd in April 2026, marking a 6% growth.

Additionally, gas production rose from 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) to 7,729 mmscfd during the same period, representing a 5% increase. NNPC urged stakeholders to rely on verified data for performance assessments.
