Ugochinyere Criticizes NNPCL for Lack of Refinery Updates

Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, expressed serious concerns regarding the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for failing to provide adequate information about the rehabilitation and operations of Nigeria's state-owned refineries. During a meeting with Petroleum Engineering students from the North Central Zone, Ugochinyere stated that the Committee had not received any briefings, documents, or relevant information from NNPCL regarding its downstream operations.

He specifically mentioned that no substantive responses had been provided by Bashir Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, or the Executive Vice President. Ugochinyere emphasized the Committee's desire for a constructive relationship with NNPCL, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability.

He warned that continued lack of engagement from NNPCL might compel lawmakers to invoke their constitutional powers to obtain the necessary information, asserting that the Committee's goal is to ensure Nigerians receive clear answers about public asset management and refinery rehabilitation progress.
