NNPP Urges INEC to Tackle Image Crisis for Trust

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), represented by spokesperson Ladipo Johnson, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prioritize addressing its image crisis instead of getting involved in internal party disputes. Johnson acknowledged the administrative burden that legal battles impose on the electoral body, insisting that INEC must tackle its own credibility issues to restore public trust in the electoral process.

He highlighted that a significant portion of the electorate believes the system is rigged, which contributes to widespread voter apathy. Johnson urged INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan to recognize the dangers posed by the current situation, noting that until INEC demonstrates absolute transparency and impartiality, no amount of internal party stability will encourage Nigerians to participate in elections.

The call for reform comes amid ongoing leadership crises and unnecessary litigations affecting political parties in Nigeria. INEC recently expressed reservations about these issues during a technical workshop in Akwa Ibom State, aimed at enforcing regulatory guidelines for political parties.
