NNPP Calls for INEC Chairman's Removal Over Election Date

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to remove the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This demand was made in a statement signed by the party's Public Secretary, Ibrahim Karay, on Saturday.

The NNPP highlighted that the scheduled date for the 2027 presidential election is February 20, which falls within the Ramadan fasting period observed by Muslims. The party described this decision as unacceptable, alleging that it would negatively impact the participation of Muslim voters across the country and could be seen as a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise a significant Muslim population.

Furthermore, the NNPP accused the INEC Chairman of showing religious bias in fixing the election date. The party urged President Tinubu to act swiftly to replace the INEC Chairman, arguing that such a move would ensure fairness and restore confidence in the electoral process, asserting that a credible Christian replacement would guarantee justice and fairness.
