NNPP Critiques National Assembly Over Tinubu's Vacation

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) criticized the National Assembly for its silence on President Bola Tinubu’s extended working vacation in Europe, labeling it an institutional failure. NNPP Chairman Major expressed that leaders must be accountable and that the essence of checks and balances in democracy is being undermined.

He stated that a balanced National Assembly should have defended the Constitution during this breach. Despite the President's absence since August 30th, Major noted that governance has not suffered significantly, asserting that it remains on course.

He defended Tinubu's decision to celebrate Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary in Lagos and suggested that the President may have needed additional rest or private consultations. Major urged the National Assembly to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities, warning that democracy cannot survive without adherence to the rule of law.

He reiterated the party's call for constitutional amendments to prevent incumbents from remaining in office during campaign and election periods.
