Nigerian Navy Intercepts 58 Bags of Smuggled Rice, Hands Over to Customs

The Nigerian Navy ship NNS Beecroft intercepted two wooden boats carrying 58 bags of suspected smuggled foreign parboiled rice in the waters of Liverpool, Apapa on August 31, 2025. The suspects abandoned the vessels upon sighting the patrol team.

The handover ceremony was attended by Rear Admiral Paul Ponfa Nimmyel and Captain Idongesit Udoessien, emphasizing the collaborative efforts to combat illegal activities like smuggling in Nigeria's coastal waters. Kehinde Alad Saliman of the Nigeria Customs Service in Apapa received the seized rice for further action.
