Federal Government Guarantees No Fee Increase at King’s College

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announced that there will be no increase in school fees at King’s College, Lagos, under a new management arrangement with the King’s College Old Boys’ Association. This assurance was made during a news conference in Abuja, where Alausa addressed concerns regarding the agreement aimed at mobilizing additional resources without transferring ownership from the government.

He stated that the arrangement would adhere to stringent key performance indicators and that an implementation and monitoring team would conduct unannounced inspections. Additionally, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, confirmed that no teachers would lose their jobs due to this arrangement and that they would have options for redeployment.

Ahmad also mentioned ongoing teacher capacity-building programs and the establishment of a committee to review the agreement and incorporate legitimate concerns from unions. The government aims to restore the quality historically associated with Unity Colleges.
