Tinubu Renames National Theatre After Soyinka in Lagos Renovation

President Bola Tinubu praised the decision to rename the renovated National Arts Theatre in Lagos after Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. The iconic structure, now known as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, underwent a facelift funded by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bankers Committee.

The renovation, costing N65 billion, included modern upgrades like HVAC systems and fire safety facilities. The National Theatre, originally completed in 1976, gained prominence for hosting FESTAC 77.

This project signifies a tribute to Soyinka's contributions to literature and human rights, placing Nigeria on the global map of creativity and culture.
