Bamidele Advocates for Gender Inclusion in Nigeria's Governance

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, declared that no nation can achieve its full potential without the full participation of women in governance, diplomacy, economic development, and public leadership. He made this statement during a book presentation at Nigeria House in New York on September 23, 2026.

Bamidele emphasized that gender inclusion should be seen as a strategic investment in Nigeria's human capital and institutional strength rather than an act of favor. He highlighted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognizes the importance of including women and young people in Nigeria's political and economic spheres.

The event was attended by notable figures, including UN Deputy Secretary-General Ms Amina Mohammed and Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Kayode Are. Bamidele stressed that genuine inclusion goes beyond merely increasing the number of women in public positions and is vital for strengthening Nigeria's democracy.
