Fintiri: No Northerner Should Contest Presidency in 2027

Umaru Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State, has declared that no politician from Nigeria's northern region should run for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 elections. He argued that it is essential for the presidency to rotate to the southern part of the country after the completion of eight years in office by President Bola Tinubu.

Fintiri, a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), made these remarks during an interview on a television program, stressing that adhering to a rotational power arrangement is crucial for reinforcing national unity and strengthening the country's democratic culture. He criticized any northern politician considering a presidential run at this time, stating that it would jeopardize the stability of the nation.

Fintiri also addressed speculation regarding the political ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, indicating that he does not wish to engage in controversies surrounding the PDP's future.
