INEC's Amupitan Ensures No Predetermined Results for 2027

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated that there will be no predetermined results in the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the commission's dedication to conducting transparent polls. Speaking at a panel session during the sixth edition of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, Imo State, Amupitan highlighted the importance of security, particularly in states affected by violence, and noted that INEC is collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force to address pre-election violence.

He criticized the trend of personality-based politics and urged political parties to focus on issues rather than personal attacks. Amupitan also mentioned that ongoing litigations from political party primaries would not hinder the conduct of the elections, as the Electoral Act allows for judicial resolution of such disputes.

He assured that INEC is enhancing its intelligence-gathering capabilities to combat electoral malpractice and ensure a credible electoral process.
