INEC Reports Progress on 2027 Elections Preparations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has completed nine out of the 14 activities outlined in its timetable for the 2027 general elections. INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan made this announcement during a youth engagement program titled “The Electorate: A Youth Dialogue with INEC” in Abuja.
The event was organized in collaboration with Yiaga Africa, Enough is Enough Nigeria, and the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund. Amupitan, represented by National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education Mohammed Haruna, highlighted that significant progress has been made, including the conduct of political party primaries and the publication of the voters’ register.
However, he acknowledged complaints from some political parties regarding discrepancies in the initial publication of candidates. INEC is working to resolve these issues before finalizing the candidates' list.
The commission has increased its meeting frequency to ensure preparedness for the elections, which are crucial for Nigeria's democratic process.
