UK Rejects Nigeria's Request to Repatriate Ik Ekweremadu for Prison Sentence

The UK government has refused Nigeria's plea to repatriate Ik Ekweremadu to complete his prison sentence in the UK for his role in organ trafficking. Ekweremadu, along with his wife Beatrice and associate Dr.

Obinna Obeta, were convicted in 2023 for conspiring to exploit a young Nigerian man's kidney. Despite discussions between Nigerian and UK officials, the UK declined the transfer due to concerns about Ekweremadu's commitment to serving his sentence.

Beatrice had previously served part of her sentence in the UK before being released and returning to Nigeria. The UK emphasized its zero-tolerance for modern slavery offenses.
