NOA Calls for Stricter Mining Safety After Wase Disaster

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of 35 miners in a disaster at the Kanpani Zurak mine in Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State. In a statement released on Monday, Deputy Director of Communication Media, Paul Odenyi, highlighted the agency's call for strict enforcement of safety regulations to improve protective measures across mining sites nationwide.

The Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanr Issa Onilu, described the incident as completely unacceptable in modern society, stressing that compliance with safety rules and regulations must be a top priority to protect human lives and preserve critical national infrastructure. He warned of the dangers associated with unauthorized mining operations and substandard safety measures, which often lead to devastating consequences, including fatalities.

The DG urged the Nigerian community to stand against reckless practices that result in mass casualties and called on relevant authorities and stakeholders in the mining sector to intensify efforts in enforcing compliance and establishing safety standards.
