Nollywood Thrown Into Mourning As Veteran Actor Segun Remi ‘Chief Kanran’ Passes Away

Nollywood is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran. The Nigerian filmmaker and celebrity journalist Seun Oloketuyi confirmed the actor's death on August 15, 2025, with the cause unknown.

Chief Kanran was known for his unique style and humor in numerous stage plays over several decades. He made his screen debut in the 1988 drama series "Mirror in the Sun" on Lagos Television.

Some of his notable movies include "Vigilante," "Sango Eri," and "Oko Great Bird." Chief Kanran faced challenges in his career, including a fire that destroyed filming equipment worth N500m. Fans and colleagues have expressed their condolences, with many remembering his contributions to the industry.

The late actor's resilience and dedication to his craft have left a lasting impact on Nollywood.
