Lando Norris Claims Spanish Grand Prix Pole Position

Lando Norris achieved pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix on Saturday, narrowly defeating Mercedes’ world championship leader Kimi Antonelli by just 0.011 seconds in a thrilling conclusion to the qualifying session. Norris, driving for McLaren, delivered a late lap that pushed Antonelli down, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen qualified third, 0.140 seconds behind.

Lewis Hamilton, who had been in provisional first place after the initial runs in the final session, was ultimately pushed back to fourth, with his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in fifth. Mercedes’ George Russell and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri followed in the standings.

Norris’ performance was marked by an inconsistent session, where he placed fifth in Q1, seventh in Q2, and was 0.449 seconds slower than Hamilton after the first runs in Q3. However, he found his pace on the final lap, describing it as “gorgeous” and potentially his best.
