Northern Christians Demand Fairness in Religious Budget

The Northern Christian Association (NCA), led by Rev. Joseph Hayab, has expressed concerns regarding the allocation of funds in the 2026 budget, which earmarks N1.91 billion for seven church-related projects and approximately N6.14 billion for 52 mosque-related projects.

The NCA has highlighted a significant disparity in the allocation of the N8.05 billion religious budget, warning that such imbalances raise issues of equity and equal treatment among citizens. The association insists that their stance is not opposition to government support for religious projects but a call for fair and transparent distribution of public resources.

They argue that the perceived preferential treatment of religious groups could erode public trust and national cohesion. The NCA has urged the federal government to review the allocations in line with constitutional principles of fairness and equity, emphasizing the need for policies that unite Nigerians rather than create divisions.
