Northern Senators Demand State Police After Terror Attacks

Senators from the northern region of Nigeria, operating under the Northern Senators Forum (NSF), have demanded the immediate establishment of state police in response to recent terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Sokoto States that claimed over 36 lives, including security personnel and worshippers. The call was made in a statement signed by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua (APC, Katsina Central), emphasizing that the ongoing killings have become unbearable.

The senators urged the Federal Government, state governors, and state Houses of Assembly to urgently support the State Police Bill currently before the Presidential Working Group led by Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

They argued that decentralized policing is essential for improving response times and intelligence gathering at the grassroots level. The senators condemned the attacks in Gaya community, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, and Ungushi village, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, and expressed condolences to the victims' families.

They also called for investments in community vigilante groups to assist police and military efforts.
