Nigerian Film Submitted for 2026 Oscars; NOSC Encourages Filmmakers to Enhance Competitiveness

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has submitted a film for consideration in the 2026 Academy Awards' International Feature Film category. Despite acknowledging improvements in Nigerian films, the NOSC expressed regret that the submitted film did not meet the Academy's criteria this year.

The NOSC encouraged Nigerian filmmakers to study past works and enhance their understanding of the category to improve future submissions. The International Feature Film award is presented annually by the Academy to non-U.S. produced films with at least 50% dialogue in a language other than English.

The NOSC's proactive steps aim to boost Nigerian filmmakers' competitiveness on the global stage and increase their chances of recognition at prestigious awards like the Oscars.
