Salisu Yusuf Confident After Shooting Stars' Opening Win

In the opening game of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season, Shooting Stars secured a 2-1 victory over newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Friday. Lucky Emmanuel opened the scoring for Shooting Stars in the 11th minute, followed by Uchenna Njoku equalizing for Inter Lagos with their first-ever NPFL goal.

Just before halftime, Sodiq Ibrahim converted a penalty to restore Shooting Stars' lead. The second half saw limited chances, with substitute Qamar Adejoke winning another penalty, although Adams Mustapha's attempt hit the post.

Coach Salisu Yusuf expressed optimism about the team's future performance, stating, “It’s step by step... If we have one month, you can imagine what to expect.” Shooting Stars will next face Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.

Inter Lagos will prepare for their first home match against Doma United next weekend.
