Shooting Stars Triumph Over Inter Lagos in NPFL Opener

On August 28, Shooting Stars commenced the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a 2-1 victory over newcomers Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan. Lucky Emmanuel opened the scoring for Shooting Stars in the 15th minute, but Inter Lagos equalized through Damilare Adigun seven minutes later.

Just before halftime, Shooting Stars earned a penalty, which Sodiq Ibrahim successfully converted, restoring their lead. The Oluyole Warriors maintained their advantage in the second half, securing the first three points of the season.

Shooting Stars dominated possession with 58%, took 11 shots (four on target), while Inter Lagos managed five attempts (one on target). The match also saw four corner kicks for Shooting Stars compared to three for Inter Lagos, with the visitors receiving two yellow cards and the hosts one.

This match coincided with the NFF's appointment of Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman as the new Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL.
