NRM Backs INEC, Warns Against Leadership Hijack Attempts

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has publicly backed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and cautioned against attempts to hijack its leadership. During a press conference held at the party's secretariat in Abuja, NRM Chairman Princ Chinedu Obi emphasized that the electoral body must not breach court orders.

He warned against allegations of forum shopping aimed at destabilizing the party, asserting that the NRM dissociates itself from claims of non-compliance with court directives. This statement follows a Federal High Court order requiring INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan to appear in court on March 10 regarding contempt charges brought by a faction led by Edozi Njoku.

Obi criticized the actions of the Njoku faction, which he claimed misinterpreted a court judgment delivered on March 5, 2025, and attempted to convene an emergency convention without proper approval. He urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria to caution judicial officers against being influenced by such destabilizing activities.
