NRM to Field Presidential Candidate for 2027 Elections

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has officially ruled out any merger with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, as stated by the party's chairman, Chinedu Obi, during a press briefing on April 21, 2026, in Abuja. Obi confirmed that the NRM intends to present its own presidential candidate, aiming to build a strong contender against the current administration.

He highlighted the party's strategy to focus on strengthening its internal structure rather than forming alliances. Additionally, Obi addressed internal issues within the party, referencing a recent ruling by the Federal High Court that dismissed a dispute involving faction leader Edozi Njoku, thereby resolving ongoing legal battles within the NRM.

He asserted that the party is stable and ready for political activities leading up to the elections, welcoming capable aspirants to contest various positions in 2027 while maintaining that any claims of a crisis within the party are untrue.
