NSCDC Arrests Ex-AEDC Worker Over N350m Cable Theft

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested Isaac Zegbe, a 25-year-old former employee of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, along with several accomplices for the alleged vandalism and theft of electricity cables valued at over N350 million. The arrests occurred during intelligence-driven operations across the Federal Capital Territory and neighboring states, including Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Niger, and Kaduna.

NSCDC's National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant Babawale Afolabi, reported that the suspects vandalized over 15 kilometers of aluminum conductors between Yangoji and Abaji. Following a sting operation, a significant quantity of the stolen cables was recovered at Gudu Market in Abuja, leading to the arrest of suspected receivers, including Chijoke Christian, who admitted to purchasing the stolen cables.

The NSCDC has secured a court order to seal the shops of merchants involved in the theft. This operation is part of the NSCDC's ongoing efforts to protect critical national assets and curb criminal activities.
