NSCDC Thwarts Transformer Vandalism in Jigawa, Arrests Suspect

On September 21, 2026, at approximately 4:20 am, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command successfully foiled an attempt by suspected vandals to damage a transformer in Gumel Local Government Area. The operation was initiated after a resident alerted NSCDC personnel about the presence of the suspects.

The Gumel Divisional Officer, CSC Bashir Ya’u, mobilized the Anti-Vandalism Squad to the scene at Dantanoma Quarters, where they encountered the suspects attempting to access the transformer. One suspect, Mubarak Adamu, aged 21, was apprehended, while two others fled.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had used a cutlass to dismantle the protective wire fence around the transformer and had stolen three armoured cables valued at approximately N2 million. During interrogation, Adamu provided information about other accomplices, including Musa and Binya, who remain at large, and Umar Fagge Babban Layi, an alleged receiver of the stolen cables.

The NSCDC Commandant, CC Kabiru Ingawa, praised the resident for their timely report and urged the public to remain vigilant.
