NSITF Expands Coverage to 7.8 Million Workers in 2026

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) announced that more than 7.8 million workers are now covered under its Employees’ Compensation Scheme, with the average claims processing time decreasing from 14 days to 10 days. This information was disclosed by NSITF Managing Director/Chief Executive Oluwaseun Faleye during the 2026 National Pre-Retirement Summit held in Abuja at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre.

The summit's theme was “Own Your Retirement: From Planning to Action.” Faleye emphasized the importance of building retirement security during a worker’s active years rather than solely at retirement. He noted that the focus of social protection should extend beyond legal promises to actual experiences during vulnerability.

The Employees’ Compensation Scheme, which covers employment-related injuries, occupational diseases, disabilities, and deaths, provides various benefits including compensation, medical care, and rehabilitation. Faleye mentioned that the number of enrolled workers increased from over 7.6 million in July 2026 to over 7.8 million, indicating a shift towards sustained participation and compliance through partnerships with various stakeholders.
