Nigeria Taekwondo Federation Aims for LA 2028 Olympics

The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing athletes and securing qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Vice-President Godwin Abah made this announcement during the opening ceremony of the 14th Korean Ambassador Cup at the Gymnastics Indoor Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Abah emphasized the federation's focus on identifying emerging talents and improving the competitiveness of established athletes. He noted that the increasing pool of talented athletes has raised competition standards, making it challenging for previous champions to retain titles.
The competition featured over 40 athletes in various Poomsae events. Abah also highlighted the recent classification of Nigerian para-taekwondo athletes by international experts from World Taekwondo, which will enable eligible athletes with disabilities to participate in international competitions.
The current board, led by President Grandmaster Tayo Popoola, is building on past achievements to strengthen taekwondo in Nigeria, with national trials and competitions like the MOB tournament in Lagos aiding athlete preparation for international events.
