NUEE accuses thugs of torturing JED workers in Benue

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has accused suspected thugs associated with the Benue State Government of abducting and torturing employees of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) Plc. This incident followed the disconnection of electricity supply to the Government House in Makurdi on October 21, 2026.
NUEE's Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, stated that armed thugs invaded JED's district office, claiming the disconnection embarrassed their principal. The attackers allegedly abducted JED’s Benue State Operating Officer, Samson Abah, and other employees, taking them to the River Benue bridge where they were assaulted.
The attackers confiscated personal belongings, demanded money for their release, and pressured the workers to restore power through an illegally installed transformer. NUEE is demanding medical treatment for the affected workers, replacement of stolen items, an apology from the Benue State Governor, and accountability for the attackers.
The union warned of potential indefinite withdrawal of services unless safety assurances are provided.
