Jos Electricity Distribution Plc Staff Abducted in Benue Attack

Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED Plc) condemned an attack on its staff and the invasion of its office in Makurdi, Benue State, by approximately 50 youths over a disputed transformer connection. The company's Public Relations Officer, Saratu Dauda, reported that the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 1:17 pm, during which the youths assaulted staff members and abducted 10 personnel.

They also removed four vehicles and various technical tools from the premises. The abducted staff and properties were released around 5:45 pm after the youths forced the reconnection of a transformer supplying the Government House and the State House of Assembly.

Dauda noted that several staff members sustained serious injuries during the incident. A similar incident had occurred on September 3, 2026, when JED personnel were held hostage at the Government House after detecting a meter bypass.

Dauda stated that the latest incident has been reported to security agencies, and JED Plc will cooperate with them to prevent future occurrences.
