NUJ FCT Chairman Advocates AI in Energy Journalism

Comrade Grace Ike, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, called on energy journalists to embrace continuous learning, data accuracy, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the quality and credibility of energy reporting in Nigeria. This statement was made during a capacity-building workshop organized by the NUJ FCT Council in partnership with Chevron, themed “Strengthening Energy Journalism Through Knowledge, Data Accuracy and Artificial Intelligence.” Ike highlighted the media's critical role in shaping public understanding of the energy sector and influencing policy debates.

She stressed the need for journalists to deepen their knowledge of industry operations and to rely on primary sources for accurate reporting. Ike also discussed the potential of AI as a tool for improving newsroom efficiency while cautioning against its misuse, which could lead to misinformation.

She emphasized that credible data is essential for sound journalism, urging journalists to verify information before publication.
