NUPRC Advocates Drone Surveillance for Oil Security

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), led by Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, is calling for the deployment of advanced technologies, including drone surveillance, to monitor oil and gas operations throughout Nigeria. During a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Defence, Eyesan emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to protect Nigeria's oil and gas infrastructure, which currently produces nearly 1.8 million barrels per day.

She noted that sustaining investment in security technology and human resources is crucial for achieving these goals. The NUPRC is also working on promoting a new security framework that involves collaboration with industry stakeholders and security agencies.

General Christoph Gwabin Musa, a representative from the Ministry of Defence, introduced a non-kinetic national security intervention model aimed at stabilizing Nigeria's upstream petroleum sector. This model includes youth engagement initiatives to address the root causes of insecurity in oil-producing communities.
