Kemi Adeosun Reveals Reasons for Resignation Over NYSC Certificate Forgery

Kemi Adeosun, the former Minister of Finance in Nigeria, resigned from the government of President Muhammadu Buhari following allegations of forgery related to her NYSC certificate. In a recent interview on a TV program, Adeosun disclosed that she chose to step down in 2018 after it was reported that she had submitted a forged NYSC certificate as part of her credentials.

Despite a court ruling in July 2021 that she was not subject to penalties for the certificate issue, Adeosun emphasized that resigning was the ethical choice. The controversy surrounding her certificate led to her resignation, despite her intention to seek legal redress.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo ruled that Adeosun was not obligated to present an NYSC certificate to hold public office in Nigeria, but did not address the forgery allegations.
