Abiodun Celebrates Obasanjo's 89th Birthday in Abeokuta

During the 89th birthday lecture honoring former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described Obasanjo as a living legend in leadership and public service. The lecture, themed "Global Africa: Enlightened Chain Renaissance," took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta on Thursday.

Abiodun noted that national development relies on strong institutions and leaders who prioritize long-term interests. He emphasized that Obasanjo's presidency from 1999 to 2007 introduced significant reforms, including the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and banking sector reforms.

Abiodun also acknowledged Obasanjo's extensive influence in conflict resolution across Africa, particularly in Liberia and Ethiopia. Haitian Ambassador Jean Robert Pillard spoke about the cultural ties among African peoples, reinforcing the importance of shared history and heritage.

The event underscored Obasanjo's lasting impact on Nigeria and the African continent, with Abiodun asserting that future generations will continue to benefit from his contributions.
