Obasanjo Celebrates 89th Birthday, Advocates Cultural Preservation

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo highlighted the significance of cultural preservation during his 89th birthday celebration organized by the De Kegite Club in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Obasanjo, who serves as the eternal grand patron of the club, stressed the need to maintain Africa's rich cultural heritage, stating that culture defines the essence of African life.

He attributed his longevity to divine grace, a healthy lifestyle, and social interactions, emphasizing the importance of diet, rest, exercise, regular medical check-ups, and maintaining peace of mind. Tunde Aregbesola, the immediate past governor of Ogun State, described Obasanjo as a cultural icon whose influence within the Kegite movement remains significant.

Ayinla Semiu, the national head of the club, acknowledged Obasanjo's tireless efforts in promoting African culture and traditions. The De Kegite Club has been a longstanding institution in celebrating and upholding African traditions, symbolized by the sharing of palm wine as a means of fostering peace and reconciliation.
