Obasanjo Calls for Action on Nigeria's Insecurity and Economy

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has articulated the pressing issues of insecurity and economic decline in Nigeria, stating that the government cannot guarantee the safety of lives and property. He argues that the normalization of kidnapping and violence has led to a culture of impunity.

Obasanjo suggests that Nigeria must re-engage with its neighbors to rebuild regional intelligence and conduct joint military operations, particularly through a multinational task force in the Lake Chad Basin. He also calls for the reclassification of banditry and kidnapping as acts of terrorism to dismantle the culture of impunity.

Economically, he points out that the country has regressed in agricultural self-sufficiency, with rising staple prices exacerbating poverty. Obasanjo stresses the need for consistent long-term policies to support farmers and create job opportunities, emphasizing that addressing economic roots is crucial to tackling insecurity.

He concludes by urging the ADC to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative to address these serious challenges.
