Dignitaries Celebrate Obi of Onitsha's 85th Birthday

On Friday, dignitaries including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi gathered in Victoria Island, Lagos, to celebrate the 85th birthday of Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu, the Obi of Onitsha. Obasanjo praised the monarch's long-standing relationship with the nation and highlighted his role in promoting peace and unity across Nigeria.

He noted the respect held for the Obi of Onitsha by traditional rulers nationwide. Governor Sanwo-Olu described the monarch as a man of destiny whose life has redefined traditional leadership, emphasizing his humble beginnings and significant contributions to national development.

Peter Obi reflected on his close work with the Obi during his tenure as governor, acknowledging the monarch's wise counsel. Former Senator Florence Ita Giwa commended the Obi for maintaining the dignity of the throne despite challenges.

The event celebrated not only the monarch's birthday but also his two decades on the throne.
