Wike Urges Political Parties to Follow Electoral Laws

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, addressed political parties in Nigeria during a monthly media briefing in Abuja, emphasizing the need to obey electoral laws and refrain from blaming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for internal disputes. Wike highlighted that the ongoing crisis within political parties stems from a disregard for established legal procedures.

He warned that internal disagreements cannot supersede the law regulating party activities, including congresses and conventions. Citing past conflicts within the People's Democratic Party (PDP), he noted that the Supreme Court of Nigeria has ruled that breaches of due process cannot be justified by internal party matters.

Wike stressed that INEC's actions are guided by court judgments and statutory regulations, and urged parties to resolve their internal crises to avoid weakening their chances in future elections.
